2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Response

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster early showing last fall.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the need for a more defined direction.

Ismailer stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to address player expectations.

Trend of Key Hires

The news follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire message from Ismailer's announcement:

Dear Team—

I know you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game playtest was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a sharper identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to heart and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our fans.

The trust in this project grows every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of the team. Following several months of talks, he comes aboard us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Please join me in greeting him in the coming days. We are all eager to keep seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.

The President

Experience of the New Leader

Brinkman presently serves in the role of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Vision

The upcoming game was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the description reads. "Take on the rivals with fresh skills, stakes, and obstacles that evolve every session. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or go big, risk it all, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is yours."

The game does not have an official release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can expect further news as creation continues.
