Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson disclosed he narrowly avoided a potentially fatal accident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals darted across the track directly in front of him

The dangerous situation took place on the third circuit when track officials were seen on the track as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to change his broken nose section

Competitor's Live Reaction

Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson communicated to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you just see that? I could have... killed them"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a fresh hard compound tires, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes dashing across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, truthfully, it was incredibly risky"

Track Safety Questioned

"Evidently there's been a communication breakdown somewhere but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a live track safety personnel can be permitted to just run across the track like that. I don't understand the reason, I'm confident we'll get some kind of clarification, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Governing Body Reviewing

Formula 1's governing body, the global motorsport federation, is actively examining the situation

"Following a turn one incident, race control was informed that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the FIA

"During the third lap, track officials were informed and made ready to go onto the racing surface and remove the wreckage once the entire field had cleared the area"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had pitted, the orders to send marshals were canceled and a safety warning flag was displayed in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what occurred following that moment"
