Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in P17 as his team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
