The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.
